Meet Yolanda
I’m the founding author of Tangled Press and work with wonderful illustrators and editors around the world. My first book, Curlilocks and the Three Pink Pandas was inspired by my then four-year-old daughter, who one day expressed a wish for pink skin. Upon further conversations, I realized the desire for pink skin wasn’t because it was her favorite color, but because her best friend and friends at school had “pink skin.”
This conversation inspired me to continue filling our bookshelves with books that featured children who looked like her, being conscience of the media images that she and my son took in and finally making up bedtime stories around my kids. One night I changed up the story of Goldilocks, and the first Curlilocks was born.
I love the reception the books receive at signings or when reading to schools and was pleasantly surprised when a friend offered congratulations on Curlilocks and the Three Pink Pandas being listed on BuzzFeed's "19 Unforgettable Children's Books that Celebrate Diversity."
When I’m not reading or writing you can find me chauffeuring my kids around Austin, Texas, researching the perfect dog, drinking tea, planning the next family adventure or experimenting with dinner dishes to wow my husband of almost twenty years.
